Providing a nurturing environment for you to feel empathised with, understood and held as you work towards a deeper sense of yourself and a place of healing
Coming from a complex childhood of my own, I learned from a young age the power of a positive, nurturing relationship. Along the way, it was the people who provided safe spaces, and open listening that offered me the space I needed to grow and consider how I could fulfil my potential in life. Having struggled in school with dyslexia (not something that was well supported in the 80s), I needed to find my own way to believe in myself and show those around me what I was capable of. This led to my entrepreneurial zest which enabled me to set up and run several successful businesses. I also have trained and qualified as a commercial pilot, and a divemaster and am currently working towards my black belt in Karate. I truly believe development never stops and life is a series of journeys.
Good therapy is built on the relationship between client and therapist. I focus on listening to your story, your concerns and the self you want to share with me in order to offer you a non-judgemental and constructive space. I feel passionately about offering therapy that is person-centred which means that I follow your lead whilst focusing on providing a nurturing environment for you to feel empathised with, understood and held as you work towards a deeper sense of yourself and place of healing.
I find offering talking therapy an enriching and fulfilling experience. I am constantly learning from my clients and colleagues and find the learning and development I gain from thinking about the human experience helps me to consider my own life and the lives of others with greater depth.
Since becoming a father 7 years ago, I have become passionate about supporting dads at all stages of their parenting journey. Men can often feel isolated in their emotional experience and this can be exacerbated when becoming a father. I feel strongly that there needs to be more spaces for men to talk and share as well as a greater level of understanding of the specific experiences and needs of dads on their parenting journey.
I have experience working as a therapist in a variety of settings including, anger, bereavement, anxiety, depression, community counselling, crisis counselling, business and work stress, the impacts of menopause, domestic violence, one-to-one counselling and therapy, private practice, video and phone call therapy services.
Alongside my private practice, I hold voluntary therapy positions in two charities, one offering bereavement support and another offering low-cost therapeutic support for those in crisis.
I work with issues such as; depression, fear, phobias, anxiety, panic attacks, anger, stress, self-esteem, bereavement, loss, change, relationship problems, sex-related issues, cultural issues and or situations, work issues, identity, life changes, meaning, grief, health-related issues, different types abuse, addictions and trauma.
