Depression is more than simply feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days. Most people go through periods of feeling down, but when you’re depressed you feel persistently sad for weeks or months, rather than just a few days. People can be affected by depression differently exhibiting a wide variety of symptoms. They range from lasting feelings of unhappiness and hopelessness, to the loss of interest in the things you once enjoyed and feeling very tearful. Many people with depression can also have symptoms of anxiety. There can also be physical symptoms, such as a somewhat chronic feeling of tiredness, sleeping badly, having no appetite or sex drive, and various aches and pains.

Our Practitioners:

“Depression can take many forms. Usually it represents a form of stuckness, whether an incapacity to move through daily life, procrastination, intrusive negative messages to yourself or an ongoing feeling of tiredness and lethargy. As a psychodrama psychotherapist I believe in the creative power of depression when it is acknowledged and attended to as opposed to viewing it as the “damned dog” that needs shooting. Therapy with me will invite you to really embody your depression, whether bodily or through play, art, sand tray or sculpture work. We will understand its need from you (and yours from it) and explore together the essential conversations and interventions for you to work towards a more enriched way of being.” Alexa Edelist, Psychotherapist and Couple Counsellor >
