Alexa Edelist,
Psychotherapist and Couple Counsellor, UKCP accredited
“I meet you as you are,
how you are, and where
you want to go”
Navigating life is not always easy, sometimes the way forward feels blocked, the horizon littered with obstacles. Alexa’s aim is to come alongside you on the journey, gently encouraging the questions and curiosities that will help you move forward with freedom, insight and spontaneity. Whether you arrive to address specific difficulties or are simply seeking some time out from everyday pressures, therapy with Alexa offers a warm, non-judgemental space to explore, develop, and even create.
A UKCP-accredited group and individual psychotherapist, Alexa is also trained in the creative action approach of psychodrama. Psychodrama invites us to consider the roles we embody in relation to ourselves, friends, colleagues, partners, and the world at large. As with most holistic and psychodynamic therapies, psychodrama places the relationship between client(s) and therapist at the centre. Early sessions are spent working gently together to understand your needs and wishes from therapy with an invitation to work creatively with small objects, art and other small-scale action interventions for those who feel a little stuck in words and dialogue. Couples and groups can especially benefit from understanding their relationships through the lens of role whilst addressing the challenges of being, working and growing together.
As well as a number of years in private practice, Alexa has worked across NHS and private hospital settings running groups and working individually with clients with personality disorders and psychosis as well as substance and behavioural addictions. She has worked extensively with those working to understand and integrate the experience of anxiety, depression, disordered eating and/or exercising, perinatal and postpartum depression and psychosis, social anxiety and other issues, and the impact of historical trauma on current well-being. She has particular experience working with neurodiverse clients and helping partners and colleagues manage the challenges of allistic and autistic approaches to shared tasks and supporting couples with communication challenges relating to different cultural and linguistic origin stories.
