Dr Nick Carragher, Specialist Clinical Psychologist
“Change happens when we understand not only our thoughts and behaviours, but also the identities and environments that influence them. I aim to help people grow with both insight and self‑compassion.”
I am a psychologist whose practice is grounded in systemic thinking and community psychology, with a strong commitment to reducing barriers to access and promoting equity in mental health care. My work is shaped by an understanding that people exist within families, cultures, identities, and communities – and that effective therapy must honour all of these contexts.
I work in an LGBTQ+ affirmative, culturally responsive, and anti‑oppressive manner across every area of my clinical practice. Creating a space where clients feel seen, respected, and empowered is central to how I work.
How I Work
Clients often describe my style as warm, thoughtful, and grounded. I aim to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe to explore challenges, build insight, and develop practical tools for change. Together, we work toward meaningful, sustainable improvements in wellbeing.
Therapeutic Approach
I specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), drawing on evidence‑based methods to help clients understand patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each person’s needs, integrating:
- CBT for anxiety, depression, stress, and low self‑esteem
- Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD
- Systemic and community‑informed perspectives to understand the broader influences shaping wellbeing
- Affirmative practice for LGBTQ+ clients
- Culturally responsive frameworks that recognise the impact of identity, discrimination, and social context
My clinical experience spans NHS and community mental health settings, including roles at Barts Health NHS Trust and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
