Nicola Wilkins, Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, L5 diploma in person-centred counselling, MBACP accredited.
“I offer a safe haven where vulnerability is met with compassion.”
In Somatic therapy Nicola Wilkins tries to teach clients to be aware of what is happening in their bodies, and to identify signs of nervous system excitation, and also nervous system relaxation, so that they can know what is beneficial and what is detrimental to them.
Somatic therapy has many proven benefits for those struggling with mental health conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Bringing awareness back to the body and reconditioning it to release the trauma stored deep within the nervous system can improve many symptoms of mental health disorders.
The somatic interventions help a client to ground or anchor themselves to a safe place and calm the nervous system. The exercise is done with the client thinking of a safe space and monitoring any anxiety… if anxiety does occur we “put on the brakes” (pause) and go to the safe space until the anxiety has gone.
Somatic therapy may increase an individual’s resilience in social, physical and psychological domains. In addition to improved symptoms of PTSD, depression traumatic events and anxiety, somatic therapy may improve an individual’s overall sense of well-being, according to research.
The full ten weeks programme fee £900 (£90 per session) or you can book each session at a time £120.
