Julie Holiday, Integrative Psychotherapist, BACP accredited

“No matter your challenges, finding a therapist who creates a safe and truly empathetic space is essential. This connection can blossom into an effective therapeutic partnership, guiding you towards healing.”

My approach is individualised, tailoring methods to meet each person’s specific needs. Drawing from diverse theoretical backgrounds, I integrate ideas, techniques, and insights to create a personalised therapeutic experience. I’ve delved into DBT, MBT, and ACT, enhancing my toolkit. Additionally, my studies in Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, CBT, and MBCT have deepened my understanding of personality disorders. I’ve also explored the psychological impact of new motherhood and how children absorb their parents’ emotional states. My training in Existential Phenomenology has opened my eyes to the complexities of human existence and the societal pressures we face.

As a therapist, I recognise that every individual is unique, with their own complex issues. Tailoring therapy to meet the specific needs of each person is crucial. My commitment to understanding my clients needs has fuelled my education, as I want to understand as much as possible to widen my approach and integrate different theories.

I work with individuals and couples.

Start with a Psychological assessment: The assessment takes roughly 1 hour. It will guide a person to acknowledge and identify their issues in which to work on and which therapy is effective for their issues.

What will you get with an assessment?

  • Identifying issues and causes.
  • Looking at psychological issues, emotional states, psychosomatic states, cognitive processes, problematic behaviour patterns
  • Risk management
  • It withdraws evidence from the person and builds a case formulation,
  • Identifying troublesome states that prevent living peacefully and Happy.

Having worked with diverse mental health issues—suicidal ideation, self-harm, eating disorders, emotional instability, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and PTSD—I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship is a powerful healing journey. No matter your challenges, finding a therapist who creates a safe and truly empathetic space is essential. This connection can blossom into an effective therapeutic partnership, guiding you toward healing.

From the very outset, I prioritise creating a safe space where trust can flourish. Clients can open up without fear of judgment, allowing their authentic selves to emerge. As Carl Rogers wisely put it, “The person knows themselves better than anyone else.”

Julie works with individuals, Couples and Families.

Current Practice, 10 years in Addiction and Mental Health

I am the Counselling Coordinator and Psychosocial Lead for a National Organisation Specialising in Substance Misuse, Mental Health, Criminal Justice and Homelessness. I manage the counselling services across London Boroughs, supervising and managing counsellors and supporting their development. I also facilitate and support Psychosocial Interventions, group therapy and complete Psychological assessments. I have practiced psychotherapy throughout the ten years at the same service . The majority of service users are from deprived backgrounds and have experienced much stress and trauma in the beginning of their life and this has caused much internal conflict, emotional and psychological distress.

In 2013, I experienced a mental breakdown supporting my late husband who had been ‘diagnosed with bipolar disorder ‘ and addiction problems, along with being a new mum – psychological stress caused immense internal conflict. I was recommended a course by the NHS. Through the course, I began to understand my own challenges. Later, I enrolled in the NHS program called New Horizon, which helped me rediscover my true self. Surprisingly, during this process of self-discovery, I realised my innate empathic nature—the desire to assist others in distress, even as I sought help for myself. My openness encouraged others to share their experiences, creating a safe space for them to express their difficulties. Encouraged by facilitators, I explored counselling, and my journey was documented on the NHS website. I am forever grateful to those who supported me, allowing me to transform my life. I now live a fulfilling and stable life, to which I credit psychotherapy for this positive transformation.
